Brussels, Belgium, 24th August, 2015 – Haas Automation Europe is pleased to announce that $425,000 (€377,000) from the Gene Haas Foundation (GHF) will be shared among 61 schools in 15 European countries. The money, a gift from Gene Haas, the Founder and CEO of Haas Automation, will be used to support scholarships in machining and manufacturing.

The GHF funds are intended to support students and their parents in paying for tuition fees, study books, work clothing, small tools or manufacturing study trips.

This year, Haas Automation received 69 applications for funds, with 23 from Belgium alone, while Poland (12 applications), Croatia (7) and Spain (7) also showed considerable interest in the program. The total amount requested was $1,296,328.

The 61 successful applicants in 2015 will each receive a share of $425,000.

The schools are located in Belgium, Croatia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Ukraine. The largest value award this year is $17,500, which has been secured by three different schools: IES Luis Vives (Spain); Oulu University of Applied Sciences (Finland); and Technische Scholen Mechelen (Belgium).

Over the past years, the objective of GHF scholarships has been to help increase the quality and retention of students in manufacturing training programmes across Europe. Next year the GHF hopes to expand its presence in Europe and assist in the ongoing revival of technical education.

The scholarships are administered in collaboration with Haas Automation and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS). In Europe, the project has been carried out by Mr. Simon Vanmaekelbergh, Haas Automation Europe’s HTEC and Educational Partnership Coordinator. The scholarships are part of Gene Haas’ ongoing engagement in supporting technical education. The Gene Haas Foundation hands out scholarships on three continents. The Haas Technical Education Center (HTEC) Network aids thousands of educational machining programmes in North-America, Europe and Africa and will soon be expanded to Asia.
